Betty Jean Tarpley, age 71, of Mineral Bluff passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at her home. She was born on March 7, 1950 in McCaysville to the late Wendell Garfield Cross and Eula Mae Roberson Cross. Betty Jean worked for Levi Strauss and Company as an inspector. She was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Hardscrabble Road, Mineral Bluff. Betty Jean liked to paint, cook and quilt. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Reid Tarpley and siblings, Mary Lou Dillard (LeRoy), Ruby Ann Cross, Winston Harold Cross, Ralph Cecil Cross and Delores Rose Cross. Survivors are siblings, Jeanette Cross, Charles Ray Cross (Charlene), Randall Garfield Cross, Benny Joe Cross (Gay), Henry Lee Cross and Bill Jeffrey Cross (Hazel); nieces; nephews; other extended family members and friends also survive. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Garren and Rev. Doyle Davis officiating. Music will be by Ed Vest. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Airport Road, Copperhill. Pallbearers will be Zeke Henson, J.D. Long, Sir John Davis, Jay Tolbert, Bobby Johnson and Logan Davis.
