Betty Jean Selby, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully at home in Blue Ridge, Georgia, on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at the age of 92. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, on February 9, 1932, Betty Jean married William L. Selby, Sr. in February 1951. Together, they moved to Hollywood, Florida, in 1961, where they raised their family until 2018, when Betty Jean joined her daughter and family in the Georgia mountains.
Betty Jean was preceded in death by her mother, Helen Adams; her husband, William L. Selby, Sr.; her son, David Selby; her grandson, Chad Selby; and five siblings. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Sandra Jaffie (Wayne); her son, William L. Selby, Jr. (Kelly McGoldrick); her grandchildren, Kourtney Selby Robinson, William L. Selby, III, Lauren Jaffie Carney, Jace David Selby, Matthew William Jaffie, Devon Selby, Emily McGoldrick, Evan McGoldrick and her great-grandchildren, Olivia, John John, Declan, and Lily.
A passionate animal lover, Betty Jean was often seen with a sweet pup or two by her side. She found joy in nurturing her garden and had a special talent for growing things, always delighting in the satisfaction of having her hands in the dirt. Known for her generous spirit, she was the first to offer help and the last to accept it, embodying a heart full of kindness and selflessness.
A celebration of Betty Jean's life was held on Friday, September 27th at Epworth United Methodist Church, 585 Madola Road, Epworth,GA at 11:00AM. Pastor David Jones and Pastor Edward Murray officiatied the service. Music was provided by Mark Threadgill. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation in her honor be made to your local Humane Society or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her and were touched by her warmth and generosity.
