Obituary

Mrs. Betty Mae Newman Adams, affectionately known as "Mamaw Betty", age 93, of Farner, TN passed away on September 20, 2023 in the Copper Basin Health and Rehab. She was born in Farner, TN to the late Willis Fulton and Charlotte Gibson Newman. Betty was a loving and devoted Christian wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Betty lovingly cooked many meals for her beloved family and was renown for her biscuits and chicken and dumplings. She was a devoted member of New Zion Baptist Church for 81 years and was currently the oldest member at her passing. Aside from being a wonderful homemaker, Betty served as the Post Master Relief for her husband, Ray Adams who had served as the Post Master in Farner until his retirement. Betty is preceded in death by her parents; husband Ray of 63 years; and four brothers and six sisters.

Survivors include her children and their spouses, Steve and Patricia Adams of Farner, TN, Linda and Chuck Gilreath of Lenoir City, TN, Tom and Terri Adams of Farner, TN and Rev. Paul and Sharon Adams of Mineral Bluff, GA; sister, Hattie Lois Maney of Beech Island, SC; grandchildren and their spouses, Julie (Jon) Wilson, Phillip (Sarah) Adams, Adam (Angela) Gilreath. Grant Gilreath, Miranda (Matt) Shields, Laura (Jason) Collis, Rebekah (Anthony) Payne and Luke (Melissa) Adams; great grandchildren, Ivie (Jacob) Riggle, Iris Wilson, Ireland Wilson, Janie Wilson, Josie Adams, Silas Adams, Hunter Gilreath, River Gilreath, Brynn Gilreath, Zoe Green, Lilah Shields, Zeb Shields, Emma Payne and Ryan Payne; sisters-in-law, Lennie (Lee) Stansbury and Madge Jackson all of Kingston, TN; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. from the New Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Adams and Rev. Larry Weaver officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with Rev. Raymond Akens officiating. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Phillip Adams, Adam Gilreath, Luke Adams, Grant Gilreath, Silas Adams and Jon Wilson.
