Obituary

Mrs. Bertha Mae Pinson Whitlow, age 98, of McCaysville, GA passed away Thursday, April 8, 2010 in the Life Care Center of Copper Basin. Mrs. Whitlow was born September 15, 1911 in Fry, GA to the late Bartley and Nancy Bridges Pinson. She graduated Copperhill High School in May, 1930 and attended Young Harris College and later Tennessee Wesleyan College where after graduating pursued a career in elementary education in the Fannin County School System, retiring in 1974. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of McCaysville, GA, active in the WMU, and the Adult 1 Sunday School class. She was also a member of the Fannin County Retired Teachers Association and the Beulah Chapter # 21 OES. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Lewis Whitlow. She is survived by two daughters Nancy McGaskey of Blairsville, GA, and Mary Alice Walden of San Antonio, TX; three grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Monday, April 12, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins of Copperhill Chapel with Rev. Harry Gilbert officiating. Music was by Paul Green and Melba Akins. Pallbearers included Tim Towe, Tommy Quintrell, Robert Arp, Bob Welch, Bob Kilpatrick and Ed Milsaps. Honorary pallbearers included grandsons, nephews, Fannin County Retired Teachers, First Baptist Church of McCaysville WMU, Adults 1 Sunday School Class and the Beulah Chapter 21 OES. Interment followed in the Crestlawn cemetery. Condolences to the family may be sent to the family at www.akinsfuneralhome.com. Akins Funeral Home of Copperhill was in charge of the arrangements. .
