Obituary

Austin Garfield, affectionately known to family and friends as "Mule", Morrow, age 77, of Murphy, NC passed away Saturday, October 27, 2007 in the Copper Basin Medical Center. Austin was a native of the Hiawassee Dam area and was a retired miner with the Tennessee Chemical Company. He was a son of the late Jim & Agnes Morrow and was also preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Flatt Morrow. He was a faithful follower and avid race car driver of the # 42 race car at the various dirt tracks around the area, with his favorite being the Tri County Race Track in Brasstown, NC. He is survived by two sons, Elmer and wife, Debbie Morrow of Copperhill, TN, Roger and wife Melissa Morrow of Murphy, NC; one daughter, Dixie Hawkins of Cleveland, TN; one brother, Clarence Morrow of Murphy, NC; a special great-grandson, "Little Austin"; a special niece, Helen Duggan of Murphy, NC; five grandchildren, Josh Morrow, Amy Tallent, Adam Morrow, Shannon Martin and Michael Cochran. Eight great-grandchildren.Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, October 30th at 2:00 p.m. from the Reid's Chapel Methodist Church with Rev. Dwayne Anders and Rev. Ronnie Miller officiating. Music was by Calla Mae Miller. Pallbearers included Jason Payne, Johnny Chastain, Shawn Chastain, David Payne, Preston Graves and Jason Deal, who along with the #42 Race Car and Hauler, driven by son Roger, with son Elmer riding with him, escorted the body to the church in memory of their father's racing career.
