The Akins Funeral Home of Copperhill announces funeral services for Mr. Arie Edward Curtis, age 87, of Ducktown, TN who passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2009. Mr. Curtis was a native of Ducktown and was a son of the late Atley and Lillie Swanson Curtis. He had worked with Bradley Memorial Hospital as a Nurses Assistant and the Georgia Forestry Commission for a number of years. Mr. Curtis was a member of the Coletown Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the Air Force/Army where he served with the Medical Core during WWII. He was also preceded in death by granddaughter, Jana Quinn. He is survived by daughter, Linda Blakely of Belhaven, NC; granddaughters, Lisa Schmidt of Raleigh, NC, Karan Petkus of Grand Rapids, MI; step daughters, Diann Seiler, Beverly Haig and Janice Potter; five great-grandchildren; and a many other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be conducted Sunday July 19, at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. G.W. Mathis officiating. Full military honors will be provided by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Interment will follow in the VanHook Cemetery at a later date.
