Anne Thompson Bailey, age 98, of Cherry Log, GA passed away on September 4, 2026. She was born on December 12, 1927, to the late Ralph Gordon and Martha E. Barnwell Thompson. Anne retired from AT&T as an accounting assistant. She and her late husband Clyde retired and moved to the Cashes Valley Community to the property they had owned for nearly 60 years. During her time at Salem Presbyterian Church in Lithonia, GA she served as choir director and also played the organ. Anne was musically talented, played numerous instruments and lovingly taught music for a number of years. She was currently a member of First Baptist Church of Epworth where she was very active over the years she had sang in the choir, participated with the bell choir, and had played the organ. Anne was also active with the Women on Missions Organization at the church collecting quarters for water and stamps for mission projects. Anne dedicated her time to the community, where she worked the voting polls for a number of years and a member of the North Georgia Dulcimer Association. She loved to travel and had visited all over the world. Anne is preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Sheila Elaine Bailey; sisters, Mildred Bailey and Martha Dinos; grandchildren, Greg Murphy and Courtney Woodward; and great-grandchild, Kaleb Nation.
Survivors are daughter, Lisa N. Murphy of Cherry Log, GA; son, Joel Eric Bailey of Morganton, GA; grandchildren, Jon Paul Nation (Amy), Ashley Fisher (John), Robert Murphy, Sierra Murphy, Anna Davis, Megan Murphy, Jacob Murphy, Chase Murphy, Jackson Murphy, Chasity Vandever, and Sarah Murphy; great-grandchildren, Julianna Woodward, Lainey Parker, Noah Parker, Emma Parker, Olivia Fisher, Thomas Fisher, Audrey Fisher, Karly Nation and Kole Nation; great-great- grandchildren, Waylon Murphy, Spencer Anderssen, Magnolia Fielder, Willow Vandever, Bentley Minton, Branson Murphy, Jake Murphy, Burlin Parrott, Hayden Parrott, Avery Ray and Georgia Ray.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, September 7, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. from the First Baptist Church of Epworth with Rev. Chris Clark, Rev. Dr. Tom Jordan, Rev. Ken Bennett, and Joyce Mitchell officiating. Anne will lie in state at the church on Monday, September 7, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. until the funeral hour of 11:00 a.m. Music will be by Rev. Ken Bennett, Tammie Mason, Mallory Woodall, and Gary Farmer. Interment will follow in the Epworth First Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Chan Mitchell officiating. Pallbearers will be Jon Paul Nation, John Fisher, Jacob Murphy, Thomas Fisher, Kole Nation, and Ted Hall. Honorary Pallbearers will be the JOY Sunday School Class. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening, September 6, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers please make a memorial contribution to a mission organization of your choice.
