Mr. John "Ailen" McGill, age 68, of Blairsville, GA passed away on February 18, 2016 at his home following an extended illness. Born in Copperhill, TN he was the son of the late Benjamin Harrison and Lucille Thomas McGill. He was a combat veteran of the United States Army serving two tours of duty during Vietnam. Mr. McGill was a purple heart recipient. He was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church in Copperhill, TN. Mr. McGill was also preceded in death by his wife, Sherry Ricker McGill; and two brothers, Roy and Tom McGill.Survivors include his wife of thirty years, Joyce Workman McGill; two daughters, Holly McGill Myers of Jefferson City, TN and Terry Workman Sharp and husband Rocky of Epworth, GA; grand daughter, Sera Fox Sharp; two sisters, Alice Walker and husband Billy of Hanceville, AL and Rachael Newman and "Gerald Patterson" of Ellijay, GA; and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.Memorial Services will be conducted on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel in Copperhill with Chaplain Jan Devereaux officiating. Military honors will be provided by the North Georgia Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday prior to the service from 12:00 noon until the service hour of 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the pet rescue charity of your choice.
